Life often surprises us with challenges we never imagined we’d face. From difficult conversations to moments of rejection or uncertainty, we all encounter situations that leave us feeling unprepared and inadequate. Yet, in the gospel of Matthew 10:17-22, Jesus speaks directly to those moments.
"Do not worry about how you are to speak or what you are to say. You will be given at that moment what you are to say. For it will not be you who speak but the Spirit of your Father speaking through you."
These words are not just a promise; they are a lifeline.
Jesus was preparing His disciples for the realities of their mission. He didn’t sugarcoat the difficulties they would face—persecution, betrayal, and hatred were inevitable. But in the same breath, He assured them they would not endure these trials alone. The Holy Spirit would be with them, speaking through them and strengthening their resolve.
Have you ever felt like the weight of the world was on your shoulders? Perhaps you’ve been called to stand up for your faith, speak a truth that others may not want to hear, or hold firm in your convictions despite feeling outnumbered. It’s in these moments that the promise of Matthew 10:19-20 becomes our refuge.
A Call to Surrender
Jesus didn’t ask His disciples to be perfect or eloquent. He didn’t expect them to have all the answers. Instead, He called them to trust—to surrender their fears and uncertainties to the One who knows all things.
And isn’t that what we’re asked to do today? To trust that the Spirit will give us the words, the wisdom, and the courage we need in the very moment we need it?
But trusting isn’t always easy. It requires us to let go of control, to quiet the voice of fear that tells us we’re not enough, and to lean fully on the Lord. That kind of surrender can feel like stepping into the unknown. Yet it is precisely there, in the uncertainty, that we encounter the steadfast presence of God.
Faith in the Fire
When Jesus speaks of enduring to the end, He reminds us that faith isn’t about avoiding the fire; it’s about walking through it with Him. He doesn’t promise that the path will be free of pain, rejection, or struggle. But He does promise His presence.
Enduring doesn’t mean we won’t feel afraid or unsure. It means choosing to trust God’s plan over our fear. It means believing that the Spirit within us is greater than the opposition around us.
When we hold onto this truth, the trials we face lose their power to defeat us. Instead, they become opportunities for God to work through us, to speak through us, and to draw us closer to Him.
A Message for Today
As you navigate the challenges of life, know this: You are not alone. Whether you’re facing rejection, struggling with doubt, or feeling unworthy of the calling God has placed on your heart, He is with you. His Spirit is alive in you, equipping you for every step of the journey.
Take heart in the words of Matthew 10:22:"Whoever endures to the end will be saved."
Endurance isn’t about never falling—it’s about getting up, time and time again, and choosing faith over fear. It’s about trusting that God’s promises are true, even when the road is hard.
A Prayer for the Journey
Lord, You see the trials we face and the fears that weigh on our hearts. Thank You for the gift of Your Spirit, who strengthens us in our weakness and speaks through us when we feel unworthy.
Help us to trust in Your promise and to surrender our fears to You. Teach us to endure with faith, knowing that You are with us every step of the way. Give us the courage to stand firm in Your truth and the grace to reflect Your love in all that we do.
We entrust our lives, our struggles, and our victories to You, Lord, for You are our refuge and strength. Amen.
As you go about your day, remember that the Spirit of the Father dwells within you. Whatever trials you face, He will guide you, strengthen you, and see you through. Trust Him, and let His love carry you forward.
Blessings,
Monica
